Low-Fidelity Prototype

Here is a short video to demonstrate the functionality of our low-fidelity Store-Away bag

Prototype (Store-Away)

As a low-fidelity prototype for the design solution we innovated for our patient Salwa, we developed the Store-away bag. The store away bag is a design modification to a one piece mini ostomy pouch which re-engineers the release system by eliminating Hollister's lock n' roll system and replacing it with a vacuum sealed screw and cap mechanism which also acts as a attachment site for a temporary reusable extension pouch. The image to the left shows the extension pouch (left), modified ostomy pouch (center), and screw-on cap (right)

Threads

In order to replace the lock n' roll system and implement an attachment site for the screw-on cap and extension bag, we 3D printed customized threads to do this. The image to the left gives an isometric view of the threads (placed on the bottom)

These threads are the same ones as the preceded photo from another angle.

CAD Designs

This is the CAD file we designed for the internal thread using autodesk inventor

The photo to the left is of the extension pouch we designed for our patient Salwa, to attach to her ostomy bag during nightly hours in order to temporarily extend the capacity of the pouch.

This is an image of our re-engineered ostomy bag. It can be seen that the traditional lock n' roll release system has been replaced by a vacuum-sealed screw-on cap.

The image to the left demonstrates our re-engineered ostomy bag connected to the extension pouch we designed via the threads attached to each part.
